Poetry: Villanelle for the mid-summer solstice

Poetry from Wildness Rushing In, published by Hagios Press in 2014:

Solstice light

Solstice light

Villanelle for the mid-summer solstice

Imagine this, the great white horse,

the northern sky in summer,

the gleaming hide of evening’s rushing course.

Swathing the night, the starry light-source

drapes us in its coat.

Imagine this, the great white horse.

Air, and light, heaven’s best resource,

weave the days we share,

stretching its hide toward evening’s rushing course.

The rippling cloth of hours unraveling for the worse,

the loom’s stray threads and gaps

unnoticed by the great white horse.

Preserve the legends, coded in deep morse

of light, stars, here, then gone

amid the gleaming hide of evening’s rushing source.

Tomorrow’s weft and yesterday’s warp,

farewell, loss, goodbye.

Imagine this, the great white horse,

and ride regardless into evening’s rushing course.
